I've heard that the best whiskey in the world is Japanese

These are all subjective opinions, very often broadcast by non-specialized mass media. I guess you've also heard that whiskey can help you lose weight or beat Covid-19… You see, the media doesn't always deliver information you can rely on.

Scotch is better than Irish whiskey / bourbon

Whenever a statement begins with "is better than", I tend to put on imaginary earplugs. Especially when it comes to whiskey.

This statement simply doesn't make any sense. There are so many different types of whiskeys that nowadays you could sip some peaty American whiskeys and triple distilled scotch whiskeys…

There are no hard rules anymore, and that is precisely the most thrilling and exciting thing in the whiskey industry.

Good quality whiskey should be consumed neat

Team "smooth" and "a few drops of water to open your whiskey" have always been fighting over this problem.

We place ourselves in a (neutral) Swiss team. However, you should know that some of the most respected whiskey experts will always add a splash of water to their whiskey ...

I drink my whiskey exclusively in a Glencairn glass

It's like saying you blow your nose only in Scottex handkerchiefs. Jokes? Explore the world, you will see, it is full of other types of glasses that might suit your whiskey. See an example here .

I don't trust big distilleries anymore. Small girls make better products!

Keep in mind that there must be a reason why the oldest and most popular distilleries (like Lagavulin, Macallan o Glenfarclas to name but a few) have maintained so much success over the years.

And perhaps this is because their whiskeys are simply GOOD. Their know-how is unique and inherited from centuries-old traditions.

That new micro-distillery may have great design and eye-catching marketing, but that doesn't mean they know their whiskey better than more established and larger distilleries.
