Il vine Petit Verdot is originally from the area of Medoc , the most famous area of Bordeaux , in France, in the northern part of the region, near the Gironde estuary. The Petit Verdot is one of the vines used for the production of Bordeaux , although to a much lesser extent than the main grape varieties that make up the classic Bordeaux cut, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc e Merlot. Many French producers had abandoned the cultivation of Petit Verdot, so much so that the vineyard area had dropped to only 1988 ha in 300. The Petit Verdot it is also widespread in California and in some Greek and Italian regions. In Italy, the Petit Verdot he manages to express himself in a really excellent way in Tuscany., in Maremma Livornese, in Maremma Grossetana and in 'Agro Pontino in Latium. The Petit Verdot is a very demanding vine for maturity and often its best potential is expressed far from its places of origin.





Il Petit Verdot ha maturity late, so it resists rot well and is capable of producing tannic, concentrated and colored wines. It therefore gives excellent results in areas characterized by hot weather, very sunny, constantly ventilated and with very little rainfall during the vegetative phase. The Petit Verdot has leaf, pentalobata, of medium size and shape pentagonal. Its cluster is medium-small, with an elongated pyramidal shape, with medium-small spherical berries and colore very dark blue. Vinified in purity on Petit Verdot gives wines of color ruby red intense, with scents fruity, floral and a characteristic spicy note in the best years, with tannins in evidence even if soft, suitable for long aging. However, it is usually used in blends.
