Tempranillo

Il vine Tempranillo is perhaps the most prominent black berried variety in Spain. The Tempranillo it arrived in Spain probably thanks to the monks of Cluny on a pilgrimage on the Camino de Santiago de Compostela. The Tempranillo it is known above all as a blending wine in wines from Rioja, where blended with the Garnacha gives life to the most renowned reds of Spain. Since it possesses little sweetness and acidity, it is rarely vinified in purity. At the origin of the name there could be its tendency to maturity precocious (temprano in Spanish means soon). This, together with a fairly short vegetative cycle, makes the vine suitable for cultivation even in the relatively cold areas of northern Spain, such as the Rioja. If, on the other hand, it is exposed to high temperatures, the Tempranillo  produces relatively flat wines. The thick skin of its berries makes its wines rather tannic which favors aging.

The geographical spread of the Tempranillo is limited to Spain and Portugal, where it is found in the regions ofAlentejo and like wine grapes port in Douro Valley with the name of Tinta Roriz. In Rioja for the maturity they are generally used barrels new American white oak, which give the wines a strong character of vanilla which often hides the specific characteristics of the vine, the elegant and soft aroma fruity which is found in the best bottles. The Tempranillo is also present in Argentina, where it is known as Tempranilla, While in Italy it has also found a terroir of choice in Tuscany. and in Latium, areas in which it enters the blends of numerous IGT, as well as in some table wines.
