History of beer Grimbergen
The abbey Grimbergen beer was born in 1128 in the monastery of the city of , Grimbergen 20 kilometers from Brussels, and was made from barley from Gâtinais and a selection of different hops.
Their economic survival, like the rest of the monasteries, was based on working the land and natural resources.
Throughout its history and after being destroyed three times by fire, the Abbey has Grimbergen always been rebuilt. This is why the mythological phoenix rising from the flames was chosen as the symbol of the abbey and its beer.
