History of Moritz beer

In 1856 Louis Moritz began to brew his own beer in Barcelona and three years later he bought a brewery, becoming one of the most important producers in Barcelona. The demand for beer increases and the business grows. In a short time, Moritz beer gains great prestige and in 1897 the Moritz Brewery is inaugurated.

In 1920 Louis Moritz dies, but two years later his heirs create the "Moritz Brewery, Inc. In 1930, Moritz achieves a record volume of sales and two years later the company already controls 34% of the total Catalan market.

At the beginning of the 1960s, the factory became too small and it was decided to change the production plant and the company "Cervezas de Barcelona, S.A." was created to increase production. However, in the 1970s, the oil crisis affected several sectors of the economy and "Cervezas de Barcelona, S.A.", Moritz decided to sell his share of the company's stock and disappeared in 1978.

Later, in 2004, the fifth and sixth generations of the family decided to relaunch the brand. In 2011 Moritz inaugurates the rehabilitation of the old original factory in Barcelona.

Moritz beers are currently produced in the city of Zaragoza, in the brewery of La Zaragozama, S.A.
